Giving 
An Act of Worship
It is your inheritance and destiny to give generously!
At Convergence, we believe that it is the destiny and inheritance of every follower of Jesus to live extravagantly generous lives. How do we know this? James 1:17 teaches us that our Father is extravagantly generous. He is the Giver of all good gifts and there is no end to His generosity. He is such a radical giver that He gave the most sacrificial, invaluable and indescribable gift that has ever been given—the gift of His son Jesus (2 Cor. 9:15). We are God's children, and our Father has given us an amazing inheritance—to be like His Son Jesus in every aspect of who He is. One amazing attribute of Jesus is His radical generosity. He is the most generous person who ever walked the earth. He healed everyone who came to Him (Luke 6:19), multiplied bread and fish to feed thousands on multiple occasions, and gave to everyone who asked of Him (Luke 6:30). He offers salvation and freedom to everyone who believes and calls on His name, and even gave His very life so we could receive this precious gift (2 Cor. 9). We are being conformed into the likeness of Jesus (2 Cor. 3:18). It is our birthright, inheritance, and destiny to be radically generous like Him!
Giving is also an essential part of worship (2 Cor. 9:13). This is another reason why we are passionate about sacrificially giving of our financial resources at Convergence Church. We give, not because we have to, but because we want to! We desire that our sacrifices of worship be extravagant. Like the woman who poured out a year's salary of expensive perfume on Jesus in gratitude and worship (Mark 14:3-9), it is our desire to lavishly pour out our praise and admiration to our King in every way. Like the Corinthians, it is our heart cry to glorify God through our generosity (2 Cor. 9:13)—not giving under pressure, but joyfully bringing our gifts, knowing that they will be multiplied back to us in abundance.
Convergence Church has a mandate to take the "key of intimacy" to the people of our city, state, and nations all over the world. This is a high calling and one that requires financial resources. Before Jesus came bringing the kingdom of God to earth, God's standard of giving for His people was 10% of their income, or the tithe. Under the law of the Old Testament, the Israelites were required to give 10% of their income to provide for the needs of the priests as well as the sacrifices and other expenses. In the New Covenant, we no longer have a temple, priests or animal sacrifices. However, we do have buildings, dedicated staff members, and other expenses that allow us to pursue our high calling as a body, and worship and fellowship each week. Jesus raised the bar in everything—including giving. In the new covenant, the tithe is no longer a religious requirement, but a place to start until we mature in faith, intimacy and the revelation of the abundant grace, provision and multiplication of the the kingdom. It is a starting place as we begin walking out our lives as new creations, possessing our inheritance by faith, and maturing into the image of His Son, the most generous man who ever walked the earth. It is our destiny to not be limited by the tithe, but to be led by the Spirit into the life of radical generosity we were born to live. Let's encourage one another to worship the Lord extravagantly through sacrificial, generous giving! Let's live out our inheritance and destiny to be like Jesus!
